Hunting is about much more than killing game. A good hunter has a strong command of land navigation, observation skills, positional shooting, an understanding of their firearm’s ballistics, as well as the skills to survive the night if lost or separated from the hunting party. This course will level up participants with the skills they need to stay warm, hydrated, camouflaged, and more prepared to take that all important single shot.
Duration: 2 days (0900 to 1700). Price: $600 per person. Location: Ellerbe. Time: 0900 to 1700 with a half-hour working lunch. Bring your own lunch, drinks, and snacks.
Foundation topics include hunter mindset, building a hunter’s field kit, observation skills, map/compass/GPS use, constructing an emergency bivouac, introduction to ballistics, shoot/no-shoot scenarios, spike camp setup, alternate shooting positions and sling use, and camouflage and movement.
Required equipment: small fixed blade knife; ferro rod and lighter; 50 feet paracord; water bottle and metal cup; hunting rifle sighted in at 100 yards; 60 rounds of hunting ammunition; binoculars; backcountry camping equipment (tarp, sleeping pad, 20 degree bag); food/snacks for 36 hours; notebook/pencil.
